Gaming Now vs Gaming Then.
I often think, how has gaming changed over the years. And when you think about it, it's changed an unbelievable amount. I've been gaming as long as I can remember, with my first console being the Sega Megadrive. Nothing could beat sprinting home from school, bursting through the door and firing up the Sega for a night of Sonic. Times were simple, and so were games. Platform games ruled, 3D didn't even exist in the gaming world, and it didn't need to.
Since then, things have changed. Graphics got better, games got more complicated, and got better - to a point. In my opinion this point was around 2007-2008. Which happens to be when CoD4 was released. CoD4 changed the dynamics of shooters, introduced customization of classes, but it didn't over complicate. That is why I think it was so perfect, games these days are far too complicated, there is literally so much choice that it takes the fun away. Taking 2 hours to create a new class isn't exactly my idea of fun. I think games need to go back to the metrics of CoD4. And instead of making them more complicated, just improve the graphics, give us a few more maps, but keep them simple.
It shame me to say about I spent around 60 days on that game, yes that's in game. I still played it from time to time, even in 2015, which is just crazy if you ask me. The fact that a game can have that much of an impact someone. And some of my friends are the same, we still reminisce about times we had on that game. I think part of the reason I loved it so much was because I got caught up in the quickscoping hype. I was on every day playing with my friends, dominating players who were using automatics and shotguns no problem. We really were a force to be reckoned with.
It's sad to think back, because I can't imagine I'll ever have that much fun gaming again. But, at least I have the memories.
